This Place Speaks
Inspiring creative journeys connected through place
Every place has something to say. It’s up to us to use our attention wisely and pick up on the threads being woven into every single moment. It’s up to us to weave those threads into the beautiful tapestry of life.
Through attention.
Through connection.
Through collaboration.
We can feel that This Place Speaks.
This Place Speaks is built on two connected practices: Listening In and Speaking Out. Together they create an ongoing conversation between people, place and community.
Listening In

By moving slowly through our landscapes, we begin to notice the threads all around us.
Listening In creates space to slow down, pay attention and explore the places we inhabit with curiosity and wonder. Through listening, observation and creative exploration, we can discover deeper connections with our communities, our landscapes and ourselves.
Speaking Out

We all have a story to share. We all have a voice.
Speaking Out creates space to find that voice and give it form. Through storytelling, writing, sound and other creative practices, we help people explore their experiences of place and share something of themselves with the communities and landscapes to which they belong.
Projects
This Place Speaks is an organic, evolving organisation, aiming to place itself at the very centre of the process of connecting people with place inspiring deep behaviour change in project participants. The core of all projects is rooted in attention. Can we learn to gently shift our attention from the pace of the world around us and to remember what it is to be human? Our projects explore what it is…
…to be active.
…to be creative.
…to be connected.
The Burrs Country Park

September 2026 to May 2027
Local people exploring Burrs Country Park through listening, observation and sound. Their discoveries will become part of a public listening trail, sharing new perspectives on a familiar landscape
Peel Tower

November 2025 to March 2026
Children from local schools explored the stories, landscape and history surrounding Peel Tower, before creating and sharing their own responses to a landmark that has watched over their communities for generations
Every place is different.
Every community has its own stories, rhythms and ways of understanding the world.
No two projects are ever the same.
If you’d like to explore what This Place Speaks might look like in your community, we’d love to begin that conversation.
